Julie Tomlinson, MSW, SEII, RYT created Soul Path Somatics out of a deep yearning for healing practices that are rooted in embodiment and connection while honoring the inherent wisdom of each Soul. After fifteen years providing counseling in clinical settings, profound burnout became a catalyst for a new path. Julie embarked on experiential studies of mindfulness meditation, yoga therapy, family constellations, and nature-based ritual practices. Discovering Somatic Experiencing® marked a pivotal shift in understanding the limitations of traditional talk therapy in resolving trauma. Somatic Experiencing® reveals how trauma patterns are embedded in the nervous system and become self-reinforcing. By working directly with the body’s physiology, facilitating the completion of defensive responses and creating space for the loosening of trauma energy, the body’s resilience is restored. Weaving somatic practices into a clinical mental health background, Julie offers empowering methods to release painful patterns, reclaim vitality and live more vibrantly in the body home.
Soul Path Somatics is offered from a heartfelt commitment to bring life-changing body-based work to others. Sessions are offered online worldwide from the beautiful mountains of Asheville, North Carolina. Julie expertly integrates holistic, relational and nature-based approaches into somatic methods to resolve trauma. Drawing on both professional training and a lived recovery path, Julie’s approach is described as deeply grounded, soulful and intuitive. She holds an earnest respect for each Soul’s intelligence and their capacity to restore their natural creativity, balance, and brilliance.
Julie specializes in working with adults navigating the effects of trauma, anxiety, attachment wounds, professional burnout, addiction, depression, and grief. She has a Master’s of Social Work, and has completed several trainings including trauma-informed yoga therapy studies, applied polyvagal/nervous system theory and family constellation work. She is currently in the final year of the three year Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner program. Her personal journey has been enriched by the blessing of sitting in ceremony with elders in the Peruvian Andes and participating in multigenerational, Earth-based rites of passage in deep Appalachia. Most recently, she had the honor to serve as an assistant practitioner for Sacred Restoration, a five day Somatic Experiencing® trauma healing retreat.
